Strings for Brice Z6 Fretless

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been toying with picking up a Brice Z6 fretless but before I did I wanted to find out what type of strings others have been able to use with this bass. It looks like people have been having problems with the HXB-406 but that might be because it is a string through bridge in addtion to having a 35-inch scale. The Z6 appears to not have the string through bridge although it is also 35-inch, so I'd expect that it would be a bit easier to find strings for it. But just wanted to get some inputs before I went ahead with an order.

Thanks,
Gerry

I just ordered a set of LaBella Deep Talkin' Bass nylon tapewounds in the Extra Long length for my 35" Peavey Axcelerator. I love the same strings on my Brice V2 fretless. They may not be your cup of tea, though.

I had both the Brice Z6 fretted and fretless basses and I used LaBella Deep Talkin' flatwounds on both. The fit is fine, as would be the nylon tapewounds Phil mentioned above.

The LaBella flats are high tension strings, where the tapewounds have a bit looser feel (not that they are excessively loose, just not as tight as the flats). You might also want to check into the TI flatwounds, they also fit the Z6 nicely ....

Careful with the LaBella deep talkin' flats. If you don't get the "Extra Long" scale they may not fit right. On my 35" Dean Edge (non-string-thru-body), the "E" string from the "Long scale" set went almost halfway to the first note location with wrapped silk. I sent LaBella a letter explaining the situation and they sent me a new string! Great customer service from them!

100% correct! The "long" scale is not long enough .... you'll need the "extra long" ...
