What have you used and what do you consider cheap?

there are a lot of church threads the last few days...

i used to use flats on my jazz, they didnt cut through enough for our setup, i switched to Dunlop rounds and havent looked back. ive also used Ernie Ball strings too, but i prefer Dunlop .045-.105

I love Dunlop nickel strings. They aren't as bright as some other strings. Some say they die quickly. I say they never die quicker than Ernie Ball strings do for me. The Dunlop tone, once the zing is gone, is wonderfully vintage.

I began using Dunlops when they first came out. My local guy gave me a "promo" set to demo and tell him if I liked them. I loved them from the start. They literally had ZERO break in time but seemed to last me for a few months. Man, I loved them!

Fast forward to today and I just sold my stockpile of Dunlops because I'm getting maybe a month out of them. When they die, they die fast too.

I think they might be using a cheaper core than they were? I thought it was just me, but without saying anything to a few friends they asked me if mine were dying sooner as well.

And yea, EBMM don't last much longer if any longer either.

I got tired of shelling out ~ $25 pretty much every month and went back to Fender's 7250 MLs. They are decent, and they last me about 2-3 months of continuous play. On my 4 I had a set that lasted me about 7 months.

I used the Fender strings, once. It was the ones with black silk on the ends. I really liked the tone, but they didn't last for me. When they died, there was nothing but thump. When these Dunlop's die, they keep a nice tone that (sort of) reminds me of LaBella's. I have a dead set on my SR5 right now. I keep putting off changing the strings, because I like the way it sounds.

i used Thomastick SuperAlloys. Glorious nickel strings that sound musical even after they die. I've had them on my Jazz for almost a year now, and i still love them.
on my Decade i've got Thomastick-Infield Jazz Flats, and i love them too. thumpy and awesome.

as for the glut of church threads... STOP IT! JUST PLAY! IT'S NOT THAT HARD!! JUST JAM 8THS AND DON'T FALL ASLEEP!!

I play in church. I use a Carvin 5 string with SIT Taperwound strings. SIT are probably the most underrated srings. They last quite a while and sound brilliant. The Price is right too:

When a fretless is needed, I use this set, also SIT, on my fretless P bass:

Sometimes our acoustic folk ensemble plays and then I use a Carvin AC-40 Fretless ABG with a light set of GHS Precision Flats or my Carvin 5 string fretless with a set of GHS 5 string Tapewounds.

Good luck with your search. Hope you find what you are looking for.

I would think lots of strings would work. Dr makes great strings. They may look like more money then some from the start, but they do last a long time for me. They also sound great. The Sunbeams and High Beams have both been nice clear and good for me.

D'Addario XL Nickel Roundwounds last a long time for a reasonable price. They sound as good in bars as they do in church.
