What strings are you guys putting on these? I've been using DRs for years, but have read about people having trouble with intonation on the F string on the DR set, so what else are people using or is that just internet chatter and the DR set is solid for the 7? I've heard good things about the Ken Smith set. Does D'Addario make a set? Also, what gage strings? I play a lot of jazz, gospel and funk stuff, not much rock at all anymore, and really no country at all.
I bought RickC's from him and it's shipping out tomorrow. He's using the DM 2000s, but I've not had good luck with that brand of strings so I'm thinking about a change once it gets here. I'll leave the DMs on for a while, but probably not for long.
thanks

I called and there was this big problem. I posted on talkbass about how i was upset and annoyed. The owner of SIT strings read the thread and emailed me to get my address. Sent me 2 free packs of the right strings. If that isnt a great company leader, then i dont know what is. They are good strings too. I was more than happy with the quality. The nickle strings had a nice warm tone to them and the steels were real snappy and lasted me a good length of time, and im a stickler about old strings. I would recommend them to anybody. |

I've had luck with Ken Smith 6 strings and just keeping the high one on there... I've never broken the high F. I believe Ken Smith are on there now. IF anyone has recommendations in a 100% taper core - would be interested in this (can be a 6 string set)

Consider a .135 for B if you use a .100 for E.
A 6 string set plus a single will be your least expensive options, and confer with the Conklin site for a suggested gauge for your high F. JustStrings can hook you up.

Octave4Plus strings are nice because you can get them heavier and (if you're like me) create a custom, balanced tension set. I'm really wanting to try the Circle K's. After seeing Skip's work with the Knuckle basses, following him through the entire creation of the strings, and then meeting him at NAMM, it'd be a waste of my money to NOT try them. Plus, they get great reviews here on these boards and, especially for ERBs, are equally priced.
My 8-string sets cost the same amount whether they are SIT, Octave4Plus, or Circle K.

Both the Power Wounds and Rock Brights have a great feel, sound and stay in tune forever.
