Strings for a Danelectro?

Hi,

A friend of mine asked me if I had an old set of strings that I could put on his Danelectro bass. It's an older one, double-cut but not a longhorn. It seems to be somewhat of a shorter than standard scale. The strings are held in place by tension in little notches on the end of the bridge. My regular strings are way bigger than the notches. Can anyone tell me a decent string that would fit this bass?
