Strings for dingwall
If I were to buy a Combustion Dingwall 5 would I have to buy special sets for this bass because of the different scale length for each string?

Jason at BASSSTRINGSONLINE.com has sets of strings available for the Dingwall basses. They are Payson brand strings for fanned fret instruments. Of course, Jason could also help you make a custom set of strings from singles in your favorite brand.

Payson has several sets including ground wounds. There are many sets from different manufacturers that will fit. You can find a whole section on the Dingwall forum.
If you're looking to do alternate tunings, Circle K has the widest selection.

And of course Dingwall sell strings too, which can be ordered off of their website.
Not every store will have strings that fit, but they can be found, especially if you order them online. You just need to plan ahead and have a spare set. It is definitely worth it!

Any strings will work as long as the B and E strings have enough length for the extended scale, and the strings must have a hoop end, so that they will attach to the peg in the bridge.

Just to clarify, a standard ball end with a hole in it fits the pin.

You pretty much need a string with at least a 39" winding. Not that many but they are available
