Which strings do I need for this bass?

Hi!

Thank you for taking the time to read my thread. I am borrowing a friend of mine's Schecter Hellraiser five string bass. I would just go buy a set of strings, but, I know there is a requirement of "extra long something" because of the way the bass is made.

I believe this is the model:

I remember them possibly being Rotosound brand strings. Any help is very greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much!

Thank you for your swift reply! The only thing is I am not sure which type of strings to buy. Does this site tell you based on the model?

If the bass is strung through the body you'll need to get extra long strings but if it is "top loaded" then most regular long scale strings will work. If you don't have a string preference, a safe bet is D'Addario. Another enthusiastic recommendation for Jason and www.bassstringsonline.com

Ooo okay, perfect, thank you! How do I know if the bass is top loaded? I will soon get either long scale or extra long!

Top loaded just means normal. Strung through the bridge. Thru body means just that, fed thru holes in the back of the bass.

You should find out what string brand and gauge the basses owner wants on it. As is you have zero knowledge yourself for picking strings even for yourself.

Does anyone know, if I got extra long, is it possible that they could be too long? Or could I always cut them? I am just looking for the size for the Schecter Hellraiser.

You can always cut strings down.

if the strings go all the way through the body, you need extra long, or at least 36" strings on a 34" scale bass.

If in doubt, email the manufacturer.
