So, in short.
I like nickels after about 1-2 weeks and then after week 4 they are dead. I can't wait a week for strings to sound good once they are on.
I like D'addario Chromes for the first 2-3 weeks(perfect) and then they slope off and are dead. ($40 a set eak!)
Is there anything out there that I can put on, and then enjoy for more than 3 weeks? I don't sweat much, I wipe them down, and I play 2-7 hours every day. 1% of that time is light slapping. I play pretty damn soft. I wash my hands before playing.
So, any strings that are mildly aggressive for long periods of time?
Thanks,
Jonathan

Thanks,
Jonathan | Try a set of EXP coated strings; I've had a set on for almost a year now and they sound just as fresh as when I put em on. You'll probably have to special-order them as your average GC won't stock EXP bass strings (certainly not in super-long like my TRB needs) |

EDIT: Do an archive search for "denatured alcohol". It works great.

Often I have heard a guy play and thought man, what a tone (I considered bright) just to later grab his bass to find out his strings were almost dead (to my ''then'' standards'').
A bright tone comes from Technique, amplification and EQ.
Strings are important but unless you have an acidic sweat problem, you shouldn't have to change them every two weeks. |

I love pure nickel strings precisely because after a week they get round and warm (some would say dead) also, Chromes are flatwounds, and pretty much made to get round and dead.
It sounds like you may be choosing the wrong string for your application. I would suggest at least trying coated strings. |

| | | | There must be more to this story. I cannot see how spending $400 a year on string killed Sting. Inspector Kluso should look into this. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
