Strings for a Fender 5-er

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, i recently got a CIJ Fender 5-er, and i was looking for some string suggestions. It has Warwick red labels on there now but i'm not crazy about them. I don't really know what i'm looking for exactly because this is my first fender. i want the B string to sound as good as possible and to stand out in the mix. any ideas?

LaBella Hard Rockin Steels if you like more bite and growl, Slappers if you go for a warmer sound.

p0k,

Technically, I shouldn't be talking to you - you ended up buying the two basses that have given me the most GAS this past year (that Fender AND that sweet Spector of yours)!!!

When you bought the Fender, didn't it have TI flats on there? Were you not feeling the tone from those? IMO, flats + nice, passive bass = yummy. As I said though, IMO...

If you're looking for a bit more brighhtness (rounds), I'd suggest going with some from of Nickel string. XL's or DR Lo-Riders, perhaps...

I'd say it depends on your playing style, mainly.

Good luck! And enjoy those basses...

I'll say DR SS lo-riders, because they are my favorite string...I have them on everything.

haha, i'm sorry to have spoiled your gas attacks...or maybe i helped you not spend money? The fender actually have warwick red labels on it when i got it...i was thinking about flats...i've used chromes in the past and liked them but i just the sadowsky preamp/DI and i thought rounds might give me some more UMPH. btu anyway, i just bought some DR nickel Lo-riders, so we'll see how those work out. thanks for the help guys!

I recommend Fender's "Super Bass" Nickelplates Steel Roundwound strings, they have always worked great on my Fender V.
