Any suggestions for strings for a Fender '62 American Vintage Jazz Bass? I play country-rock, pop/rock and more acoustic based music. |

The ML set of Labella flats will get you 90% of the way into Jamerson territory, and save your hands. |

| | | | Man those La Bella Jamersons are very high tension. I picked up a set at the N.A.M. show a couple of years ago. I put them on a P-Bass but had to take them off, just way to tight for me. I asked the guitar player I was playing with at the time how they sounded and he said " HUGE" ! I loved the tone but I did'nt think my Bass neck could take tension of those strings. |

However; when I see some of my favorite bassists/songs using roundwounds, I tend to go back forth between the two types of strings. Well, I finally bought a set of D' Addario Half Rounds ENR71 reg. light gauge which has good qualities of both. First, they are warm, and smooth (not near as smooth) a bit like flats. Also, they are somewhat bright, a tad of growl, with less tension, and more acoustic resonance like rounds. I really like them on my 74' Jazz. Lately, I do not really care for Stanless Steel rounds on this bass =ring,ring,ring... Moreover, flats on my bass take away almost all the growl, except for a couple of notes (what J's do best). This problem makes me go back and forth. However, good luck w/YOUR choice. |
