Strings for Fender Precision Junior???

I purchased a Fender Precision Junior, and am wondering if anyone could recommend a good sounding set of strings for this extra-short scale bass? I put on a set of D'Addario short scales (.40 - 100), and they sound good - all except for the E string. For some reason it is a dead, "thump" compared to the other strings. This is the case whether I string it through the body or not. I am wondering if I may have gotten a bad string, or if this is an inherent problem with these little basses? Anyone have experience with this particular bass?

what is the scale in inches?

I believe the scale is 28.5 inches.

if you search this forum under 'junior', you will come up with a couple of posts addressing the issue .. a few strings are recommended ... one says that Fender actually makes a roundwound for this bass (or at least used to) ... good luck

In my experience I've found shortscales to be very picky about what strings will intonate well, especially the E string.
