I have an Applause ae40 acoustic electric SHORT scale bass.

I have Phosphor Bronze round wounds on it now, came with the bass.http://www.talkbass.com/forum/images/smilies/help.gif

Here is what I want to do, I would like to put tape wounds,
or flat wounds on it, light guage so I don't pop the bridge off or warp the neck.

I want to get a fretless bass sound, without the finger squeak noise I get on the round wounds.

I cannot find them anywhere, can anyone help me???

Thank You, Rwill

I have a Resophonic (Dobro type) ABG with a set of light gauge GHS Precision flats (.45-.95 I think) that work just fine. I also have my Carvin ABG in fretless with the same set in the same gauge, just long scale. They work very well on short scales and have a lighter tension. There is a dedicated shortscale set in the same gauge.
I couldn't stand phosphor either. Too much finger noise and a serious lack of lowend.

I ma using the Status tapewounds on my ABG now and about to add them to my Dean Pace bass. They are not as loud as the rounds or phosphor strings but sound great amplified. I can get nice acoustic, woody, almost upright sound.

The strings are very easy to play and low tension for tapewound. I did not have to adjust for any increase in tension from the roundwounds that were on before.

I am not sure about using them on a short scale but you could contact Status, Rob is very helpful.
