Strings in general

I am picking up bass again after playing for 5 years. I sold all my gear then, but I just got an Epiphone EB-3 bass. Back then, I really didnt have a string preference. i used either D' addario, Ernie Ball, or GHS Boomers. I dont even remember if I even used flats or rounds. Its been too long. And honestly, I forgot what the differnce between the two is.

I would like to find a brand amongst teh three and stick with one brand. of the three which ones sound the best on an Epi eb-3 bass.

I have never used Boomers but have used both EB and D'Addario nickel roundwounds and to be honest, really can't tell much differnce. If pushed to split hairs, I would say that EB's when new are slightly "zingy", that is more metallic in sound and may have a bit rougher feel but after a week, sound and feel about the same. I currently use D'Addarios but have used and liked EB and wouldn't hesitate to buy them again. Bottom line is what sound are you after? EB's are more aggressive, D'Addarios more neutral. Take your pick.

Really, some tone preference would be extremely helpful. Most of the time, I see people throw flats (like D'Addario Chromes) on the EB-3's because they want that really boomy, muddy, no-top-end sound in a bass, and the pickup location on the EB-3 is quite useful for that.

It's not possible to make a helpful recommendation unless you know whether you want flats or rounds. For example, your EB-3 with flats would sound more like a Jazz bass with flats than a Jazz bass with new zingy roundwounds would. The difference between the two is perhaps the single biggest factor in determining the sound of any bass and the first and most important choice to make when pursuing the sound you're after. We can't make that choice for you if we don't know what you want.
