Question Strings for Hofner 182 Solid?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi!

I need some help finding strings for my 1964 Hofner 182 Solid. Flatwounds would be nice but the truth is I haven't yet found any strings with fitting length/thickness for this bass.

Shortscale LaBellas won't work; i would say the D- and G-strings are at least 3cm too short; I believe they are designed for Hofner 500, which has 2L/2R tuners. I also tested some other brand shortscales and the silk came about half a centimeter over the nut.
Normal "long scale" strings can't be used because the tuner holes are too small for the "thicker" part of E and A strings.

Anyone have a suggestion?

Fender sells shortscale strings made for 4-on a side tuner arrangement of Bronco, Mustang and Musicmaster:

.040 gauge though, so pretty low tension guaranteed...
