Strings for jazz band?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Yamaha bass (not fretless) and I wanted to know what kind of strings i should get that would give a good, thumpy, upright kind of tone. I was thinking about getting some flatwounds, but im not sure if they would be good for playing rock in my other bands.... i need help!! I can't decide!! too many choices!!!

edit: oh, i forgot to ask... can you play slap bass with flatwounds?

Yeah, Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) used flatwounds.

I'm using less-than-a-month-old DR Lo-Riders in my school's jazz bigband right now. I just turn down the tone all the way and lower the treble a bit and I get a good upright walking tone.
