strings just for temporary recording?

I'm probably going to be doing some studio work in the near future for a few people, and I use flatwounds. I don't want to use them in the recording because they're a little old. I have a new set of nickels waiting and I was wondering if it would be worth it to put the nickels on for recording, then take them off and put the flats back on for every day use, and keep the nicks for when I have to record more.
