Within the first page you'll probably get 15 different answers. There is no "one" brand and type.

That is incredibly subjective, it depends what kind of string you like "flats" or "rounds".

SIT Powerwounds last IMO, but I use them mostly because of sound/price.

Eh,
I've had SIT's before, and they died in 20 minutes. No joke. I simply can not bring myself to buy another set.

+1 on Elixirs. I have a set right now, and the coating is coming off over the frets and where I pick, but they still sound really good.

DR's for rounds, and just about any flats.

Flats especially will last years (I've heard 5-10 for TI's).

Elixir. The nanoweb(?) coating makes a big difference. My D'Addario strings always last pretty long, for regular rounds. They sound great when they're dead, too.

Elixir, but they have some plastic-ish cover on them.

For rock/metal, dr lowriders, fender stainless steel or warwick black labels. Each lasts long and sounds decent.

Does longevity for strings really matter? To me feel and sound are much more important, but if that's a non-issue, then go with flatwounds. Any brand.

+7 Elixir

Yup, the plastic coating comes off after a while .... except for playing with a pick; then .... ZOOM... it's gone.
As for the fretting hand; the plastic coating actually lasts quite a while.

... they sound pretty nice too.
