Strings for MIM JAzz

Sign in to disble this ad
Ive had a MIM Jazz for awhile. I put a set of Ernie Ball slinky's on it when I got it. Im not happy with them. I am not sure what strings to get . I looked at Rotosound swing 66's btu I heard they die out soon. I want a smooth sounding string. Something thats not going to bend the neck or make it warp. If anyone has any audio clips I'd love to hear them for the strings.

I prefer the rotos when they are dead I don't like the zing zing sound when they are new... so I go rotos.

Hope this help.

I like D'Addario Nickel Plated series, or the EXP series. The EXP series lasts really long. If you're worried about the neck bending or warping, consider a lighter gauge string. The bigger the string, the greater the tension. I like a light gauge (45-100) EXL170 or even a super light gauge (40-95) EXL220. See if that's cool.

The older I get, the better I was.

Unless something is drastically wrong with your bass, you shouldn't have to worry about the neck warping or bending excessively with any standard string set.

For nickels round-wounds, I've always liked D'Addario XLs, but if you find that standard nickels lose their zing too quickly, you might try stainless steels. That's about as zingy as you're going to get.

If you want something smooth and thumpy, go with flatwounds. Part of the magic of flats is that the older they get, the more thumpy they sound. It's not uncommon for a set of flats to go un-changed for years.
