I just got a Q6 and can't find a set of strings that match the gauges on the bass from the factory.
A little help?

I don't know what Modulus is sending out with certainty, but my VJ4 came with, what I believe were 45-100 D'Addario XL's. While I could be wrong, that would be a pretty good guess. What p/u's are in there, Barts or EMG's? I would recommend different strings based on p/u's and what music/venue(s) you're doing......

On my Q5 I liked D'Addario XLs the best out of the few brands I tried.

Call the factory and ask them what they used.

I've got a Quantum-6 SPX and I've always used Ken Smith Rockmaster Medium (or Medium-Light) stainless steel roundwounds on that bass, I'm very happy with that string/bass combination. .130, .105, .085, .065, .045, .030 I don't recall how those guages compared to the strings that came from the factory (and since that was over 20 years ago it's probably different than what they ship with now anyhow).

You can buy the strings straight from Modulus or here is exactly what they use...just different packaging...this is per Modulus fyi:

D'Addario EXL170-5SL 45-130 (this is a 5 string set, so match your string total accordingly)

You can get these from MF, GC, etc...

Hey,.....how about that, I guessed right. The set Sleep Monkey indicated for the 5er is the D'Addario nickel XL 170 set (45-100) plus the 130 for the 'B'. You can get these in a two pack for $25 at various on-line institutions and, for two sets, that is a good price! When you buy on-line (or anywhere else, really), the 'long' set works good on both my jazz (34") and my Spector 5 (35"). The short, medium, or extra long probably won't fit right. By the way, Modulus makes great stuff!

That's interesting. I use DR Sunbeams 120-30 on my Q6 and they feel very balanced. I can't imagine using a 130. I tried a lot of different brands and the ones with fat B strings felt like playing several different basses at once.

Ah well, different strokes.
