Strings for my Fretless 6 - Advice Wanted

I have a custom built Warmoth 6 string fretless bass with a maple j-bass body and an ebony fingerboard. I have bartolini soap bar pickups with an active tone control circuit.

I have used D'Addario nickel round wound strings since I got the bass years ago and I have been afraid of change because for a long time it was my only bass and I needed it consistent.

I now have a fretted 5 string in my arsenal, so I want to experiment a little with the fretless. The round wounds are eating the fingerboard (as one might expect).

I like the growly quality of the round wounds, but I want a string that encapsulates the fretless sound that still has some punch.

I bought a set of Smith Compressors, but have not tried them yet.

Any suggestions / input for me?

Has anyone over setup a six string as an octave (lower) guitar? I have a 6 string Ibanez (w/ Bartolinis) that I have got the strings to do that but haven't had time to set it up.

I think you'll get better response with a new thread. This doesn't seem to be very pertinent to the OP.

As for the OP. I love LaBella Deep Talkin' Bass nylons on my 6 string fretless. You might hate 'em. Give them a try if you have the inclination!
