strings on my new schecter stilleto custom 5

bought this bass yesterday ... and one of the reasons I bought it was how well it was setup out of the box for low action.

The strings on it seem different .. they're rounds .. the GC guy said that Schecter puts D'Addario's on their basses .. I've never played D'Aardio's ... only GHS's and DR Hi Beams ..

but these strings had some sort of coating on them so your finger slid across them real easy .. I could move around the neck very fast with these things because I didn't have to pick my finger completely up off the string .. it was easy to slide with them too from one note to the next .. no burning sensation in the fingertip .. very little friction.

Does anybody have any idea what kind of strings these are as I'd like to keep using them when replacements are needed.

As I understand it, most (perhaps all) Schecter basses are shipping with Elixir strings on them. As far as I know, they still do.

I think I heard that the newest ones had something other than Elixers. Maybe it was D'Addario's.

Though I don't remember...

i just bought a 5 string schecter a few weeks ago, they come with elixirs, which i love.

From what I understand, they used to come standard with Elixir Nanowebs, medium gauge (45-105).

However, I took a look at the new 2007 Schecter catalog, and they're now supposed to have already started shipping with D'Addario EXP strings (basically, their version of a coated string). D'Addario strings are already standard on their guitars, if I remember correctly, so it's not a big surprise.

well .. i'll have a few to try come the time ... and I'd like to put these on my other bass as well when it's time to change those strings ... so thanks

Yeah, definitly Elixirs at least as of December . My Studio 5 even had the little Elixer tag hanging on the A sting tuner. Nice strings, however some may start to "shed" after a while. Especially the strings you use most often.

When my Elite-4L arrived in mid-January, it was equipped with Elixirs. It was probably part of the remaining basses from last year's stock.

Should be seeing some D'Addario-loaded ones sometime soon. But either way, they're still using coated strings.

I switched out the strings on both my Stilettos anyway - one has D'Addario nickelwounds, and the other has Chromes

btw, if you put D'Addarios on your elite 5, you will need the superlong set. The regular XL's are too short.

I like the DR Bootzillas on my custom 4. They're a big improvement from the Elixirs IMO. Elixirs are good strings, I suppose, I just don't like the sound or feel of them.

I bought this same guitar in August 2006 and it came with Elixirs...

To be perfectly honest, I think the combination of Schecter Elite-5 and Elixir strings is awful. it's like playing a toy guitar. That being said, I don't use the Schecter as my primary anymore, and i'll never buy another set of elixirs!
