which strings for my sadowsky???

Sign in to disble this ad
hi,

since two weeks ago i am the proud owner of a sadowsky metro ultra vintage 5-string.

i love this bass but i have issues with fretbuzzing. with the original sadowsky strings there was quite a lot of fretbuzz that i could not ged rid of (in the lower and in the upper registers aswell). now i put new dr strings (the one lakland recommends for their basses) on and have even more buzz.

i think i should try strings with higher tension. any suggestions? with tapered low-b?

regards,

sandmann

You might want to take it to a REALLY good tech to check it over and set it up again.

The neck on mine doesn't move much, but when the weather changes as much as it does here in San Diego there is some movement. I took mine to the best set-up guy around and then took measurements on how he set it up. When I switch strings or it needs some adjustments I just get it back to the same specs as he had it.

I use DRs and Sadowsky strings on both my 4 and 5 string Sads. Tapered non tapered all different guages. No Buzz. Have a good tech (NOT GUITAR CENTER haha) look it over or you may wanna to give Roger a call on his recommended specs.

hmm... fretbuzz sounds more like a setup issue than a string issue.

+1.

Mine had a fair bit of buzzing, but once I took it to my local setup pro, it plays like a dream!

It made it a lot easier to bid farewell to my Lakland DJ5.

Occasionally I use DR Fatbeams on mine but for the most part I use Sadowsky Nickels or Sadowsky Flats...I highly recommend the Nickels over the Stainless....for me personally the Nickels have a good bit of the brightness of the Stainless but are a bit tamer and not as harsh (for the hands, ears OR the Fretboard!!) Check it out! You may have to do a bit of adjustment sometimes during the year to account for differences in climate or seasons as mentioned as well....

Peace,

T

i like high tension string and D'Addario's do it for me. I put a set of ProSteels on my Sadowsky and like them a lot. Very define and piano like sound.

Once set up your bass properly, try Sadowsky flats (SBF-45B). These are simply great on vintage instruments!
