There are literally a TON of different strings you could use.

Most likely in your HSJB you are playing big band standards, big band pop charts like hang on sloopy and things like that... so you want a versatile string. Or if it is a more advance HSJB could be playing some more advanced charts...

Many will say flats since they are a good long lasting option. If you were to go with flats, go with a brighter flatwound. (I cant mention names sorry, you can PM me though).

And really with the Super Long scale (35" scale?), you could use one particular brand of pressure wound strings, only if you are not using a through body option especially on the B string. (it will be a tight fit since the B has a 37" winding). These will be pretty phat and punchy sounding with smooth clear high end. These last a while too since in general they already sound a bit mellower than standard round wounds...

Another option would be some nickel plated steel rounds. You could get twin packs of 5 string sets at a very reasonable price and would probably last you the full school year as well.

You can also get coated strings but in general some of them are pricer than the other options and may or may not last longer depending on playing styles and habits.

Good luck!

(By the way, is the Grammy in the Schools program still going on? Is your school involved the the Monk Institute Jazz in the Schools at all?)

Both great programs...

While in High School, get involved with as much of that stuff as you can!

i have the same and i use dr hibeam .45-.125 and they work just fine for top-loading, but they aren't long enough to string-thru. i thought the B would be too small and floppy but it sounds fine to my ears.

I like rotosound swing 66 and dr neons. The latter would have the advantage of longer life and the coating would be helpful if others play the bass who may not wash theyre hands after lunch of french fries and drippy cheeseburger. Lol. Dr hibeams if you want real bright sound. fatbeams for more bass content. Neons for warmer tone that still has nice top and the coating. Dr sunbeams if you want even warmer tone since they dont have as much upper treble content as the neons.

I just replaced my strings for the first time since 2003. Dead rounds. Yay.

Got some Ken Smith Compressors, medium-light gauge. Pressurewounds. Been digging them. Thumpy yet bright.
