Sign in to disble this ad
I am in the process of researching for upgrades for my fender jazz bass. Would like to find out what strings i should use.

I am very into Rage against the machine, Chilli peppers, some Funk and Some other old blues rock stuff. (love slap bass)

Flea uses GHS boomers
Want to know what Tim C uses
Interested in some info about EB slinkys

Cheers guys.

If you like slap give the D'Addario EPS 170 Stainless Steel rounds. Lots of punch and a very in your face tone. Very Bright

Didn't you start this same thread yesterday? Try bumping the old thread or better yet doing a search before starting a new thread.

Getting the same kind of strings isn't going to make you sound like those guys but it can get you a bit closer. Most of their sound comes from technique and I am almost certain that they have all used different brands/types of strings over the years.

In general:
Stainless Steel roundwounds will give you the brightest and most scooped sound
Nickel roundwounds will be more mellow and mid-focused
Flats will be the most mellow

Cheers guys.
What strings you should use is all up to you, there is no wrong answer, except possibly flats as you will be slapping. You will have to try a few different makes over time and decide which you like the best. For example I have tried a lot of different strings on my Jazz, then decided on Rotosound 66, but other people would hate the same strings I use, its all personal taste really.

Tim uses Ernie Ball Nickel strings, standard gauge I think.

Hope this helps
