Strings for Passive Fender Jazz

Sign in to disble this ad
OK, so I got me a nice enough MIM Jazz a couple of months ago and I just restrung the bass with DR Low Riders 45 - 105 tuned eb, ab, db, gb last night. I have been using DRs on my basses for years (prolly 15) and really, really dig them, but they just seem *a little* bright and *a little* stiff for the new (to me) bass. I prefer the strings on the bass prior to the restring, but I have no idea what they are, lol. They look fairly generic, no silk, maybe D'Addarios, but not sure.

Any suggestions?

As to the brightness, maybe they were more broken in already? You know already how DRs break in, so I can't help there.

Soloed I love nickel rounds on a Jazz, but live SS really comes into its own to my ears. Without more info on the old strings this is really tough to call.

+1 on letting them break in. If that doesn't work then go to nickel wounds. My choice would be TI Superalloys followed by maybe EB Hybrids.

+1, or maybe just the regular Fender nickel plated steel Superbass strings.

Fender 7250s seem a bit more musical than D'Addario XL nickels. But the DAs bite a little more. I also seem to prefer 45-100 sets these days.
