Strings for a Peavey Fury II

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys, I have been all over the forums asking questions and now its time to ask about strings. A couple of members have suggested that I go with the Ken Smith Stainless Lights. I think these are round wound steel strings. I have read about how harsh steel strings can be on your fingers and since I am new to all this, I don't think I would want to have REALLY chewed up fingers. I am also looking for a deep thumping sound from my bass. My question is, are there nickel strings that give that deep thumping sound or will these strings do fine? Also, why shouldn't I go with flats? Or whu go with steel and not nickel? One musician friend of mine suggested flats since it is a P-bass. Any help is greatly appreciated!

The more I read, the more I want flats. The sound I am going for is the old, thump of motown hits and such and I think flats are the way to go. Now the question is, which flats?
