Question Strings for Peavey T-40

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi there

I've just acquired a T-40 and know that there are some fans of this bass here.

Do you have any particular string recommendations? I play melodic rock/pop so am looking for full tone and clarity, rather than floor-shaking thump (not that there's anything wrong with that!). I play fingerstyle and use a pick 50/50.

Thanks

Doug

Here's my T-40 with D'Addario Pro Steels.

Might be a bit bright for your application.

Oh, any of the DR strings would work well, D'AddarioXLS. (be sure to use the longscale or extralong scale, even though its a 20 fret bass, its long scale. )

CHeap: D'Addario nickle rounds XLS ( I eat them in about 3/4weeks and I/m NOT a pro)
Better: DR Sunbeams ( beautiful sound imho) or nickle Lo Riders (a bit more tension)

I know NOTHING about flat wounds!

Thanks for your input, guys. I put an oldish set of nickel XLs on the T-40 for now, but have a new set of (heavy gauge) DR Hi-Beams which I'm going to pop on there. I'll definitely be trying Sunbeams in the near future as they sound just my cup of tea.

I know nothing about flatwounds either!
