I am hooked on the Sadowsky Bright Nickles but if I didint use them I would probably go for Thomasic Infeld Power Bass Strings.

I like the Sadowsky Nickels. If I couldn't get those, I'd go with TI Superalloys, or DR Low Rider nickels.

My favorites are Sadowsky Stainless, LaBella Hard Rockin Steels, DR high beams. The low B on the DRs isn't as good as the other two, if you're talking about a 5er.

before roger offered his own string, coincidently enough, i used labella slappers. FYI, roger developed his string with the makers of labella. in comparison to the slappers, i found the sadowsky's to have a nicer glossier almost more hifi sound to them, but the midrange content did drop a little.

FYI, i was fortunate enough to beta test of the earlier sadowsky string winds, and the particular set i was given had lots of fat mids. strangely, the final production string i found to be very mid shy, but again, in its place was that hifi sheen.

little OT: on my MTD 635, i just put on a set of D'Addario Nickels, just cause they're pretty midrangey, which i like, but the wound low B is awful. already dead sounding. but a quick swap to a sadowsky low B string made me a very happy camper.

i'm actually thinking about just putting on a set of long scale sadowsky nickels, and adding a nice inexpensive D'Addario high C to round out the package.

I've only used Sadowsky strings. I changed from thier SS rounds to their flats. They're fantastic. It's a flat world!

I love DR Hi Beams on my RV5. They last longer (for me) than the Sadowsky Steels, and have a different, crisper high end that I prefer on that bass.

Although I REALLY like the Sadowsky nickels, I just ordered up a set of stainless just to see how they compare.

Hows the low-B for ya? I struggled with the beam low B on my RV5. Ringy highs and bad pitch past the 5th fret.

I have Ken Smith steels on an RV5 right now. There OK. B's not the best. Not sure I love them. The Sadowsky steels were a little higher tension than I like and they seemed almost too bright and buzzy compared to other steels. I may try La Bella Hard Rockin Steels or Fat Beams next.

I've got a two Sadowsky Basses both NYC (lucky me)
JJ4 ash/brazilian rosewood and PJ4 chambered alder/morado.

I've Sadowsky Flats on the PJ4 and they really work well.

I'm having some problems with my JJ4 though especially since I got my new Bergantinio IP310 which lets you hear everything good and bad. I have been using Sad Bright Nickels since I bought the JJ and have been happy with them. Since getting the IP the E string is giving me fits... Mostly the E sounds like it's running-away/blooming/undefined as I would like. I've made sure the pickup height is correct and even tried lowering the pickup in an attempt to cut some of the overwhelming runaway lows. Strangely, it occurs not with the open E/F/F#/G/G# but starts to 'run-away' from the A thru high E. Now that I hear this I can hear it on my other rigs too although not nearly as pronounced and not troublesome.... but the IP sounds so freakin' good....

So... now I'm trying all the new packs of strings I had laying around.
Put as set of DR Sunbeams on: Very piano like nice mids with an delicious ol' school vibe ta boot. Still too much runaway on the E... probably more so with the extra sustain these stings have.

Next up.. Boomers: Just put these on last night and they sound just OK but seems to have tamed the E runoff a bit, but it's still there.

I have to agree with Joker about the Sadowsky Nickels not having much Mid range which is what I'm needing right now.

Note: The Berg IP's DSP (know as Berg Flat) EQ's the cab to pretty much sound exactly like what you put in, bumps eq'd out, missing frequencies brought up to snuff etc.. very very big sounding. Really like "taking the blanket off."

OK guys ... lets have the suggstions. Thanks in advance.

I have Sadowsky Steels on my MV4 and RV5. Like them a lot. I have tried non-tapered Bs on the RV5 but prefer the Sadowsky tapered B. I would like to try the nickles.

My Sadowsky fiver currently sports Elixir Nanowebs with a tapered B. I like Sadowsky strings too, but the Elixirs last a loooooong time! They sound a little different than uncoated rounds, but I actually like the tone: the 'warmer' high end works fine with my Sadowsky because it's plenty bright on its own.

I'd also recommend Elixirs for those who feel that normal rounds are too rough on the fingers (I don't; just thought I'd mention it).
