Strings for a Short Scale

Also, despite what I said about liking the DR Sunbeams at the end of that thread, I ended up switching to D'addario Chromes after a week. Just couldn't get used to the DRs' low tension on the short-scale bass. I asked DR if they were planning to come out with a short-scale version of their Lo Rider strings, but unfortunately they said no.

The Chromes are pretty amazing. And I did buy medium-scale strings, as recommended by D'addario. Short-scale D'ads would not fit my string-through bass.

I'm using Chromes on my short-scale Squire, and Rotosound True Bass nylon-wound on my 30" Ovation. I had a guitar tech cut them to length. The Chromes are fine, the True bass need a delicate touch tho'

I saw you are aware of the Fenders, and I use 5250s on my Musicmaster; but, I love them. Stay in tune and hang in there with sound and longevity.

Rotosound make a shortscale Tru-bass tapewound set anyway. Apart from the ones La Bella make for Rob Allen's Mice these seem to be the only tapewounds cut to a short scale.

Anybody got any tips on cutting tapewounds down?

GHS makes nice short scale strings. I especially like the flatwounds.
