Strings somewhere between Bronzewound and flats for unplugged ABG

I have a Tacoma Thunderchief which is a very good acoustic bass. Also the loudest of all I have tried including Taylor/Martin/Breelove/Kelly etc.

I like to play mine unplugged.

The Elixirs on it now sound OK and are loud enough. It is just, well.......they sound " guitarish "

And flats sound to dull [ unplugged ].

Is there a string in between the Elixir and flats, tone wise that will be loud enough? Keep in mind this is all about UNPLUGGED. The flats sound fine amplifed.

I wasn't happy with any strings on my Ibanez AEB until I tried the Rotosound SH flats. They cut through significantly more than other flats, especially when playing unplugged, but they still retain the overall character of flats - they don't have that "ringy" tone of the rounds.

Interestingly, I don't like the Rotos on any of my other basses but I think they are perfect for the Ibby used both acoustic and electric.

I've been using the TI Jazz Rounds on my Thundercheif and I love them! They're super warm, organic sounding nickel roundwounds. Warmer than most roundwounds, but a bit brighter and more defined than most flats. They're the perfect middle ground for me

I know there's one brand out there(can't remember their name now) that do bronzewound flats, ask TBer TenorClef, he'll know.

I have a thunderchief and also apreciate it's unpluged volume-
Always used Bronze rounds (Stock set-up)
Never considered nickel strings: Are they as loud/warm?
Bronze flats!
Never heard of such a thing.
More knowledge needed.

I've gotten good acoustic volume out of LaBella's black nylon tapewounds. I'm pretty sure they're roundwound under the tape, and if your TC is fretted, you'll lose the string noise.

One thing regarding the TI's... I haven't played the Jazz Rounds mentioned above, but I have played the Acousicores. They're very light gauge and low tension, leaving much to be desired when it comes to unplugged volume. You just can't dig in.

I tried LaBella black nylons on the Tacoma and they were just to dull unplugged. I use them on one of my Ren fretless basses and they kill !!!!

I am kicking myself because I had a set of the TI jazz rounds that I was comparing to the acousticores that I have on my other Ren fretless. They were nice but not better than the acousticores so I sold them. Didn't think to try them on the Tacoma.

Anyone got a used set of TI jazz rounds they want to sell me ??

Excellent! Glad I could point you in a good direction. I love the Jazz Rounds so much. They'll make any bass sound and feel awesome
