Question Strings for Sterling 5?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm not that crazy about the EB strings that came with my new Sterling 5. They aren't that bad, but they are a bit too "spongy" for my playing style, I'd like something slightly stiffer, and sound balance isn't all that great either, D and G strings sounds significantly softer, so I need to pluck harder when playing those two (which isn't helped with the spongy feeling).

I'm thinking DR Hi-Beams in 0.45"-0.125", would that be a good choice? if not, why and what would be? If yes, what's the kit number that would fit my bass?

Thanks.

The Hi Beams are great strings and actually what I prefer, but if you don't like the give of the Slinkys, you probably won't like the Hi Beams. They are wrapped on a round core and a little more flexible as a result. You might want to try a set of DR Low-Riders. They will have more tension.

Also, raise your pup slightly on the treble side and it should help the balance.
