Strings for a Toby 5

Any string suggestions for an older Tobias Toby 5? I put some Ken Smith Rockers on it, but the bass sounds dead. My MIM P-Bass with GHS Precision Flats blows away the Toby as far as punch. Even my band mates in our classic/hard rock band like my P-bass better. I really like the feel of the Toby, but would like more punch.

Any suggestions?

Does it have new battery? Have you adjsuted action and pups for best sound? Is it a musicyo toby bass? Those while very well made in the neck thru version with asymetrical neck profile where a bit lacking for pups & preamp qaulity imo.

I believe it's one of the Music Yo Toby's ( i bought it used so not certain. Bolt on neck). New battery and action is good, but I could see if I can get the pickups closer. Thanks.

Gibson craft them in Asia, don't know them, but if they use low end Barto's on it, not good for ya....

edit:
this one ?

Or this one with single coils jazz pickups (recent models)?
