So I picked up a Cort bass that's strung through the body, imagine the shock when it came time to change the strings.....I can't find a string long enough! Anyone else ever come across this before?

This situation does suck...
Which Cort do you have? It probably needs Extra Long Scale or Super Long Scale... (probably needs strings for 35" / 36" instruments). |

Nowadays a lot of companies are making em like this: |

| | | | I finally found some 36" super long scale strings by D'addario. Only had to call 5 different stores and talk to 3 techs that have never heard about super long scale strings!
Thanks guys!

The amount of string you need to cover the distances from the ball-end termination to the saddle, and from the nut to the tuning machines is another matter. So, stringing through the body, or a bridge like the 2-Tek, or a bass with a long distance from the bridge to the string anchor (like a trapeze tailpiece) means a regular long-scale string might not be long enough.
I know D'Addario long scale strings are designed for a 34" scale with a shortish distance from the saddle to the string termination. That means they won't fit a 34" scale string-through body instrument. The D'Addario Extra-long scale strings do fit most 34" with through-body attachements. My experience with other strings on Laklands, pre-EB StingRays, and Hamer Cruise Basses (one with 2-Tek, one with the Gotoh that offered through-body) is that DR, GHS, and Ken Smith regular long-scale strings work fine. In fact, most companie's long-scale strings work that way.

They will answer questions via email too, which makes it easy. My Wishbasses are all string-thru and the actual string length is all over the map, but I have strings on all of them (16), so they are out there.
