Strings for Traben.

Any good suggestions for strings on my Traben Array 4 standard. I'm looking for Steve Harris' smooth highs with a Nikki Sixx's clear lows.

My comp kinda wigged out on me so I wasn't sure if it posted or not lol. But, I'm in a toss up between some Rotosound 66's or Dean Markley Blue steels, I know steve harris plays out of the Rotosounds, he even has his own custom strings, but I also know Nikki Sixx plays out of Dean Markley blue steels, I kinda want to fuse the 2 styles Harris' speed with nikki's growl. Another thing that might help is nikki plays on 50, 70, 85, and 110 gauges and Dean Markley doesn't sell strings with the 110 in them but roto sound does sell a set with all those gauges.

Harris plays flats, Nikki doesn't. I believe we have a conundrum.

(BTW, i agree with mmbongo, try some nickels.)

Steve Harris plays flats, which are the polar opposite of Blue Steels. You probably want nickel roundwounds, either Dunlop or DR.

if you have a 35" scale 5 string array like me....make sure you get the longest strings you can find....especially if your going to string through the body...lol

I recently tried the Blue steels and DO NOT care for them at all and they DO NOT make a set long enough to string through the body on a 35" scale Array...lol (so my B and E strings are strung at the bridge)

i usually use D'addarios but my local mom and pop were out (of the super long scale) so i picked up a set of DR Sunbeams.....i like them but not as much and the nickel D'addarios...

YMMV as I play a lot of Stoner and Doom....i want them bright, but not too bright....so i usually go with nickel roundwounds....or half rounds...

Its funny you say DR cause actually one of the others I would like to sound like is Geezer butler and thats what he plays.

Both players also use very diff and very diff sounding basses. The blue steels are very bright sounding stainless steels, much brighter then Rotosound 66's. The two strings also do harmonics differently. The rotosounds are more clanky, driven sound. Not at all a bad thing. The blue steels have solid crack of thunder bass and peirceing yet not shrill, treble. I found they take a good bit of breaking in time to give a sound I like. Between the two Id go with Rotosounds most of the time. Maybe a set of blue steels (If they'll fit so wrap isnt below nut, etc) for change now and then. GHS Boomers work very very well for me on my Traben Array Attack. Bit smoother harmonics then the Rotosound 66's they replaced, comprable sound overall to me. And not as rough feeling as the Rotos. (Not a problem for me I played rotsounds exclusively for more then 20 yrs, but still, smoother feel is nice, lol.
