Strings for Violin/Hofner style Bass ?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm hoping someone here will be able to steer me in the right direction....
i have a cheapie Rogue Hofner copy Violin shaped Bass, and i need new strings(flatwound preferrably)...

i'm having a bit of trouble finding proper strings for it, 30" scale strings prove to be too short due to the trapeze tailpiece, and 34" scale strings are much too long....

PLEASE help ?

THANK YOU !

if you really want to cop the mccartney sound, you can splurge for pyramid flats.

You must not have done any searching on TB - this has been covered multiple times.

The bass uses 32" strings....just about ALL of the violin basses do, because of the bridge/tailpiece design.

The stock strings on the Rogue are horrible - I know, I own one. Labella Hofner Flats will make it sound wonderful - they're the strings it's designed for.

I just ordered a set of TI’s JF324 H from Strings and beyond.

Best price I’ve found so far.

Macca actually uses Labella. Pyramid strings are the same as Hofner.

I use the Pyramid Flatwound Gold Short Scales on my Höfner solidbody. Well worth the money, IMO. And they probably last forever.

When getting TI's make sure to get the ones specifically made for Hofner basses. The difference is the gauge on the E string. The standard 32 scale set has an E that is too large to fit the bridge.

I have 5 German Hofners and the regular set fits all of them. There may be exceptions out there though, especially with the Contemporary, Icon or other imports.

Pyramid Gold may not fit on a bass with a tailpiece, E-string can be too short... my friend renovated my Eko bass (30" hollow-body) and had problems with finding the right Pyramids for it... In the end he had to use an E string from his jazz bass, don't know which one exactly (but a Pyramid string)...

but I love pyramids, on any kind of a bass (had them on Ps and Js)
