Strings for Zon Lightwave Fretless 5 (paging fhodshon...)

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I did it. After playing one for a long time in a store, I finally bought a Zon F-less Lightwave of my very own. Only this one has a slightly floppier B string than the one I was playing, and it buzzes too much against the fingerboard around 9th position. Maybe it's string height, but maybe it's curable with the same action and tighter strings. The set it's got on now may be Zon's nickel rounds.

So here's the question. What strings can one put on a Lightwave pickup set? It looks like they'll have to be taperwound, b/c the piezo slot on the B is so thin.

Also, is the piezo slot on the B bigger or smaller than that on the G? Mine looks to be switched or something. Weird. Maybe I'll post a pic if there's demand.

Anyone want to compare notes?

Gard got me hooked on GHS contact core super steels.

Go get a set We both play zons, though they're not LW Zons. They sound good, they last long. nuff said.

Not quite 'nuff said:

The lightwave uses a piezo bridge, and what I'm worried about is non-tapers being too wide to fit the B's bridge slots.

Anyone know what's up with Fred? He hasn't posted in two weeks or so...

DRC: are the GHS's long enough for 35" scale?

the Contact Cores are tapercore.

they should be able to fit 35" and if not, you can always custom order it, and it won't be that much. You could probably get em through Bass central (String club) or Bass NW or something.

Daddario Slowounds!

Tapered B, nickel, last forever. Killer strings, fretless or not.

Better than that silly GHS stuff!

I don't know about him, but it strikes mine!

Who produces Zon's strings, if by chance you know? I'm guessing GHS or LaBella (not many other choices...) because of the gauges they use, correct?
