Red face Stupid question: Did I simply need to file a bigger nut slot?

So the G string on the Sadowsky set just broke. Right at the ball.

In my frustration, this just occurred to me: Was the TI low-B weak and muddy because my nut slot wasn't big enough? I found the original specs of my bass, and it was factory-strung with a .125 on the bottom. The TI low-B is a whopping .136! I did notice that I had to press the string a bit further than usual on the first few frets, which made it a bit of a strain to fret those lowest notes.

I can order a .130 nut file from allparts. (I've filed nuts on my guitars, and I know how to file a bigger slot than the file spec.)

So did I jump the gun in writing off the TI's? (I hope so. Cuz I really miss the tone!)

I dont think the nut can affect the tone on fretted notes, so if it was muddy on all frets its not the nut. Could be a bad string?

Good point!

Damn, I'm out of it lately.

So I'll just get a replacement G string for the Sadowsky set.
