Such a thing as tapered flatwounds???

Sign in to disble this ad
Well I strung my Ibanez BTB455QM with DAddario ECB81-5flatwounds non tapered strings. The saddle spacing on the bridge on the ibanez doesn't allow the flatwound string to lay down flat in the bridge thus raising the height of the string up.
I want to know if anyone knows if a tapered flatwound string exist so I can my low action back. I really like the sound of the flatwound string, but I don't want to use a string that doesn't lay flat on the bridge either. Thanks.

Yeah, tapered flat wounds usually have silk ends. I know Rotosound has them (RR77s) and I think La Bella might too. Dunno about other companies.

I checked Rotosounds website and found RS 775LD's? But no listing for RR 77's. Would these be the one's your referring too? Marty

Yes they would. The last two letters are the type of gauge they are. LD is their normal set, while LE is their heavy gauge set (which I use)

Beware that the rotosounds are very bright for perhaps 2 weeks, before they warm out and become very punchy uppermidrange flats.
