Suggestion strings for Soul/R&B

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I've played rock for over 20 years and now that with my previous band is over, I'm going to play in a Soul/R&B band with also some standard Jazz.
My bass is a Yamaha TRB5-II (not the -P version) bought in 1999 and I would like to change the strings to have a warmer sound (till now I've used strings with a "metallic" sound).
So what brand and model of strings do you suggest for this kind of music?
Thanks in advance, regards.

Roberto

Flats of some kind.

I suggest the Chromes 45-132 set as a start. Make sure they will be long enough (is the Yamaha 35" scale?).

I would suggest Flats or Nickel roundwounds.

yes it is.

What about brands?

I liked D'Addario strings in the past but the last two sets that I bought lasted just a few weeks and then the sound started to decay quickly (the current set is a D'Addario XL Nickel wounds).

I suggested flats for the music you are playing. Flats tend to sound better the longer they are on. Years and years.

For a 35" scale bass, this would be the set I recommend:
D'Addario Electric Bass Chromes Flat Wound 5 String Super Long Scale, .045 - .132, ECB81-5SL

I meant that lately I haven't been so happy with D'Addario strings but I will give that set a try.
Thank you, regards.
