Suggestions For Medium Tension, Nickel Strings

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm experimenting with different strings and I'm looking for some help/suggestions to direct me to strings that fit what I'm lookign for.

I'm looking for strings sets in the....

..... .045 .065 .080 .100 Meduim-Light and in the .045 .065 .085 .105 Medium ranges.

Slight variations within in the string gauges of the set (in either direction) is fine.

My bass is: Bass: 2011 Fender American Standard Precision Bass

This is what I'm looking for:

Medium tension ( not too tight, not too loose)

Big, warm, thick, smooth, musical tone...is what I'm going for.

I do notwant clanky, harsh, bright sounding strings.

I want smooth playability.

I'm open to Flatwound and Roundwounds

Nickel prefered, but open to steel is they fit the above parameters.

Thank you.

Dunlop. They are buy one get one free at stringsandbeyond.com

Other than that, regular old everyday D'Addario XL's should work for that, and your local shop should carry them.

If you want less bright than either of those, GHS Boomers...also sold by everybody.

I have finally settled on half-rounds. D'addorio ENR72. I tried Fender Flats and they were, well just a little too flat.

As far as nickel / steel strings, Elixir is probably my favorite.

I too don't like high trebly, clanking, super bright sounding strings.

we use D'Addario XL's at my house, not too thick, can still get some decent string tension and they hold up pretty good without spending a fortune

Thank you.

And these strings you suggest, are of a medium tension and of a warmer/darker tone?
