sunbeams, neons, sunbeams, neons

Ok, so I went and put my other set of sunbeams on bass. After a bit I disliked the neons strung thru body rather then top load like normally does. So, this set of sunbeams is brighter sounding then the first set. Reminds me of my first set of neons which had dead strings in pkg. Not dead in the first sunbeams case but broken in sound perhaps. Hummmmmm. Main diff this go round is easier tap harmonics with the sunbeams.

So that leaves the blue and red drs to try over the next several months, but not tommorrow done enough string changes the last week or so for awhile. Lol.

Diff a diehard dr fan now for more then just neons. Lol. Maybe I'll eventually go the round of 4 versions rotated, green neons, blue coated, red coated, sunbeams. Id concider black beauties to try to, but thinks on all black bass Id just confuse myself and have trouble finding the strings. lol.

Anyone else found they liked two or more of the dr's about as much as each other and thus either stifled about which to mainly use or just rotate among them?

I just threw a set of DR Lo Riders on my Sterling. They sound great, but I prefer a tenser string. To MY memory (which doesn't work nearly as well as it should lol) the Sunbeams were a bit tenser and I prefer those. Sunbeams are my favorite string, but I would have no issue switching between them and these Lo Riders for sure.

Sunbeams should be looser in feel than Lo-Riders. The Sunbeams are round-core, which has a looser feel to it than hex-core strings, like Lo-Riders, but a lot depends on the gauge you choose. For example, .050-.110 Sunbeams will be tighter than .045-.105 Lo-Riders. Gauge has more to do with tension that construction.

I have a set of Sunbeams on my P-bass and that is all they will ever have. I have a set of Fat Beams on my Jazz and I can't decide whether to stick with those or not. I have used Lo-Riders, both SS and nickel, many times on different basses and have always been pretty happy with the results. I have also used a set of DDTs and liked them pretty well, but not enough to pick them over Lo-Riders.

I am having troubles deciding whether to stay with the Fat Beams on my Jazz, but in a different gauge, or to switch over to nickel Lo-Riders. Something about the feel of the Fat Beams isn't sitting right with me, but I think that switch to a lighter gauge, 4-string set and buying a .130 B-string separately will probably cure the problem. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Sunbeams on my P-bass and doubt that bass will ever see any other strings on it. And, I just bought a set of Lo-Riders for my Carvin LB76A.
