From Sunbeams to Thomastik...

Sign in to disble this ad
Well, I use DR Sunbeams and I'm very satisfied with them, but I'm thinking to change them with Thomastik Infeld Superalloy or Thomastik Power Bass.( I dunna yet...)
Will they change my sound completely or they are relative with Sunbeams?
Also, what's the difference between Superalloys and Power Bass strings?

I've used both strings and IMO the sunbeams have more mid range character and the tomastik superalloy's have more low range fundamental.

I have a jazz bass that i wouldn't use anything but sunbeams on. A friend of mine has a modulus that sounds utterly fantastic with the tomastik superalloy.

Sort of depends on what your after sound wise and if your bass works well with the strings.

???????

I find exactly the opposite when comparing the SA's to the SB's. In fact, I use the TI's on my L2k because the SB's are entirely too boomy and muddy on that bass. Don't get me wrong though..... I love the SB's, especially on a P or J.... (but hate the SA's on those because of a lack of low end, especially on the J).

I haven't tried the PB's, so I can't comment on them.

I'd say the Superalloys are similar to Sunbeams...a touch more tension, and slightly less mids. However the Power bass set is a very different string - quite a stiff feel and a more aggressive "clanky" sound...spectacular but different.
