Welcome to playing Fender basses! This is typical, standard, ideosyncratic, whatever you want to call it. Almost all Fender basses have a dead note on the G string somewhere between the 5th and 9th fret.
Sometimes, playing slightly heavier strings and tweaking the truss rod to match can help moderate the dead note. This is technically called changing the "mechanical impedance" of the neck, or its resonance.
