Sign in to disble this ad
Currently playing EB super slinky roundwounds 100-45 and want to make the switch to flatwounds 100-45, can I restringing it myself or do I need a set up with it.. Don't know if the different texture will screw up the action.. Please help, I really want to try flats??

I'm in the exact same camp as you - long time rounds user wanting to try flats. I've played with the super slinkies as well as compressed rounds. I think the flats you want might be D'Addario Chromes. Probably the two things you would want to note are string tension and gauge. I ordered the EB81 Chromes which are .045, .065, .080 and .100. The EBs are the same gauge so you should be fine. Though I'd suspect that the Chromes will have higher tension so if you end up going those you might need to tighten your truss rod once they settle in.

The EB flats are actually a lighter gauge (.040 .060 .070 .095) and I'm unsure of the tension compared to the super slinkies. I think both the Chromes and EB flats are around the same price and I wouldn't discriminate one from the other. I do know that Chromes seem to have a better reputation, at least on TB

If you're unsure about how to generally set up your bass, check out this site: Electric Bass Guitar Setup Guide

I find that being able to set up my own basses is very handy as I know exactly what specs I like - I recommend you should have a look and give it a try

Very cool!! I did see that EB makes flats 45-100. I think I'm gonna buy a cheap bass and start learning instead of throwing my money away. Thank you from Miami, FL! :-)

My mistake, just checked the site then out of curiosity, what's your current bass?

Nice what do you think of the EMGs? Are they clear and 'hi-fi' for lack of a better word?
