Switched out my flats for some rounds

I've had flats on my fretless for a good while now and tonight I decided to switch them out for some light gauge, roundwound bright da'ddarios. I have to say I'm suprisingly pleased. I've been all about the thumpy flat sound, but the piano like tones and harmonics that come out of these new strings are pretty nice. I'm not sure if I'm converted yet, but I'm enjoying it for now. Anyone else make the switch from flats to roundwounds and find yourself liking it?

Hah, well, I am actually converting one of my basses that has flats on it to a fretless and was thinking about possibly putting some rounds on it. I kinda hope I don't like them or else I'll have to change my username!

I have been thinking of perhaps switching from Flats to Tapewound/Groundwound on my Fretless for a brighter sound. I wouldn't like my fretboard to get eaten up from Rounds though.

Have you done anything to your fretboard, like coat it in Epoxy, to make it harder and more resistant to fretboard wear?

No I haven't done anything to my fretboard. Its ebony so it has quite a bit of resistance and I don't do any vertical vibrato so there will be minimal wear. Frankly I don't care if there is any, a bass is an instrument and therefore a tool for expression, its art but functional art and functional things get wear and tear, its part of the life cycle.
