I currently play three different basses, all strung with DR Sunbeams: A 60's spec Schecter Jazz bass, a G&L L2500 and a 50's Classic Precision with Fralins (MIM).

The jazz is semi-retired, the L2500 is used selectively and the P-bass is basically my current main bass. I string the L25 and the p-bass with DR Sunbeams specifically for their light tension. The 50's has a chunky neck and the lighter tension helps me navigate the neck with more agility. As for the L25, I just prefer a "looser" feel for extended range basses.

Lately with my P, I have been a little wanting in the tone dept.. I like the DR's on it but lately it almost seems too mid-rangey. I am not really getting that semi-scooped "snap" I usually associate with strings with heavier windings on a hex core (D'Addario, Fender, Roto). I am not gonna go too in depth about what I like/dislike other than that I prefer low tension on par with DR (whose hex core models still seem lower in tension than the aforementioned brands).

My question is this: What other companies offer roundcore, roundwound strings? Perhaps roundcore with a heavier outer wrap is what I'm seeking? Any help would be great!

Rotosound 66s would be a viable alternative, I think.

The Roto's are pretty high tension, IME. Are the 66's roundcore nickle?

From their website, it looks like you can get them in either (I've only played the stainless). They are definitely higher tension than DRs, but I think they'd address any issues you're having.

Of course, you can also try Circle K's hybrid strings (four of my basses have them on it) if the tension issue is still a concern. They're very low tension, but have great definition and clarity. I'm sure you can find a thread about them somewhere...
