...pulled on it a little too hard trying to stretch it a little, snapped it at the ball end. Perhaps I shouldn't man-handle $55 strings!!

Yep. That's where I get my singles when I bust one. Prices aren't "cheap" (the shipping is what kills) but there aren't many options for buying singles.
