I've got a T40 on the way and was thinking about stringing it up with TI Flats but the heaviest gauge I'm finding is 43-100. Is that the heaviest gauge for a 4 string? Can't figure out how to search for TI on here because it's only 2 letters. I have read on here that the T40 is string through and folks use TI Flats on them with no problems, strung through the body. I have read dozens and dozens of threads about the 'floppyness' of TI's, maybe it's because you can't get a heavier gauge? My Jazz is strung with 50-105 Chromes. Was hoping for a comparable gauge with the TI's. Hope someone can help.
Thanks. |

But Hell Yes-TI's Jazz Flats work great on a T-40. IMHO Ti's are like a truth serum, when I want to know what the instrument really sounds like, I put on TI's. |

I figure I've got a med to med/lite touch (finger style) and could probably lighten up a bit but I do prefer a low action.
I've managed to listen to some clips, too. Can't really tell about the quality of the recordings though. I'm looking for deep and warm but with some growl and sustain. Don't want any round-wound zing or finger noise. I'm not afraid to use EQ. When folks say that TI's have a lot of highs and high mids, I'm wondering if you can EQ a more bassy sound? |

Based on you description of what you're looking for tone-wise I think you'd be happier with the chrome flats. They definitely have more growl and sustain than the TI's.

I wish it weren't because I have Chromes on my Jazz and I'd love to be able to put them on the T40. I even have an extra set already. Can't do Labellas on a string through either. And I'm not really looking for the dull thud sound. |

I was just hoping to be able to have the smooth feel of flats and the only half wound I've ever tried (SIT Power Wounds) still have some zing and finger noise. |

I had read, more than once, that the Chromes were too short for string through so I didn't bother to look.
I just ordered a set and according to their sizing guide, the Super Longs are long enough. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
