Tape Winding Not Long Enough - Can Still Use?

Sign in to disble this ad
Want to try a set of nylon tapewounds on my Washburn AB90I.

It is a 34 inch scale, however the distance from the ball end anchor to the nut is 38.25 inches because the string is anchored to a tail piece not on the bridge.

LaBella wasn't my first choice so I e-mailed several manufactureres and found out their strings didn't have a long enough speaking length. Have a set of xlong TI flats on my AB90, so I thought that the xlong LaBella's would fit the AB90I. Assumed there was a standard xlong speaking length.

The tape winding comes about 1 inch short of the nut. (So,there is nylon windinng above the 1st fret.) Could they still be used? Would there be any problems with tuninng or bad harmonics, etc?

If not, anyone know of a nylon tapewound 4 string set with at least a 38.3 speaking length?

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
