Taper Core for 4 string basses?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a 4-string Fender Jazz with the 'regular' style bridge. (It does not have a string-thru body design.) Does anybody make a taper core style string that will fit this style of bass? If so, are they any good?

There are a few available from different manufacturers...

Do you want all Taper core strings? or just a tapered E string like the fender sets?

The "Taper Core" sets are usually only tapered on the E and A strings (not the D and G unless you go "Exposed" Core.

GHS Taper Core Rene Martinez / Progressives (Saddle Huggers)
Ken Smith Custom Balanced Taper Core Stainless Steel or Nickel Plated Steel Burners
SIT Taper Wound
Dunlop Trujillo Sig's...

Fender has a set with a tapered E string

I know there is another with a tapered E but I cant think of it off hand...

There are also exposed core strings...

La Bella Super Steps
Rotosound PSD (Piano String Design) ((adjustable))
SIT Power Cores
GHS Contact Cores

I did not mention DR Long Necks since they are best for through body instruments.

The only other company I could add to that list is Circle K Strings. In terms of tapered strings, I've had nothing but good experiences. I think that if the strings are designed properly with the taper in mind, the taper can only help the tone of the lower strings.

blah!! I knew I left out SR2000's... Sorry about that!

The sets of Circkle K I have used only had a tapered B and E string, not an A string... Not sure if they have a Tapered A...

I think they taper everything from an .084 and beyond. Don't quote me on that, though. I'll have to check my bass when I get home, but I'm fairly certain my .084 A is tapered.
