Tapered .14x string sets
This topic has almost definitely been done, but after searching for about an hour, I'm giving up looking myself ;)
Does anyone know where I can get a set of bright, stainless 5 string strings with a tapered B in a .140+ gauge and the others in a medium to heavy gauge?
Preferably in the UK too.
I have tried Thomann and many others, and the only things to come up so far with pyramid .145 (not tapered) and Circle K .142 set (again, not tapered).
www.bassstringsonline.com where you can build your own custom set using the gauges you want.
Sets with a tapered, steel, .145 or larger are
LaBella (it's not specified but all of their larger strings are tapered)
And he may have more, but you'll be able to get what you want from those for sure.
He's in the USA but ships to the UK.
Circle K's are tapered - but are not stainless
in Pre-Packaged sets then it is pretty much the Ken Smith.
Your options are greater if you purchase 4 string sets and single Low-B's.
Rotosound native to your side of the pond has a .175 string in their Drop Zone Plus set that is tapered.
Single strings from stringdirect.co.uk. I buy my D'Addario prosteels singles here and the prosteels .145 tapered is amazing, best B i've tried. Use the D'Addario tension chart to design a custom set. I suggest .145 .105 .080 .060 .045 for a tension balanced set, medium tension.
And the tuning is varying between standard and drop G (stupidly low)
Yeah thats my experience too with strings direct, certain products will only appear depending on how you navigate or search the site. I couldn't find chromes singles using the navigation and filtering, but a site search found them.
Circle K's got the best tapered string, IMO because the taper isn't too long. They're also the brightest nickel strings I've ever used, so worth a try if you're looking for stainless steel tapered strings. If you can roll with .135 and want a tapered B and it has to be stainless, I'd go for the Fodera set off BassStringsOnline.com as that's my favorite non-Circle K tapered set.
